ABC RECRUITING CAMPAIGN
of the Salem Kiwanis Club

ABC Recruiting Campaign

ABC Recruiting Campaign

The following is an outline of the ABC Recruiting campaign to be utilized by the Salem Kiwanis Club. This recruiting method is further detailed in chapter 7 of the Kiwanis International Membership Development Guide. That method has been slightly modified as follows;

The ABC recruitment system combines both traditional and modern approaches to marketing Kiwanis to prospective members. This system takes advantage of the personal and business relationships of our Kiwanis members and then utilizes the special skills and talents of our members where they are best suited, by dividing up the labor.

“A’s” PROSPECTS       “B’s” RECRUITERS       “C’s” CLOSERS

All club members will be called upon to provide names for the list of  “A’s.” These may be friends, business associates, or personal or business acquaintances.

The “A’s” are prospective members whose names are provided by our active Kiwanis members.

The “B’s” are recruiters who will actively invite the “A’s” to Salem Kiwanis Club meetings.

The “C’s” are closers who will approach the “A’s” and invite them to join our club. They will be knowledgeable members who can provide accurate club information and can respond to any objections and then close the deal.

2005 RECRUITING CAMPAIGN

Bob Repine has been selected to serve as chair for this campaign. Members of the membership committee will assist him as needed.

The ABC Recruiting Campaign will formally kickoff on Tuesday, February 8, 2005 and will continue through Tuesday, May 10, 2005.

During the month of February, teams will be organized and names of “A’s” (prospects) will be obtained. Prospect profile forms will be completed and evaluated.

During the month of March, teams will actively invite guests to attend our weekly meetings. Teams will follow-up and invite guests to attend more meetings.

During the month of April, closers will obtain applications from prospects. The membership committee will conduct new member orientations and inductions as needed.

The recruiting campaign will be wrapped up during the first ten days of May 2005.

COST OF GUEST MEALS

Guest meals will be paid as follows;

The member who provides the prospects name will (on a voluntary basis) pay for the first meal. If the member cannot pay for the meal, the club will pay instead. The cost for these meals will be $7.50 and will not include a raffle ticket.

The club will pay for the second meal for all guests.

Guests will be responsible for their third and subsequent meals at $10.00 per meal and will include raffle tickets.

RECRUITING TEAMS

Three Salem Kiwanis Club recruiting teams will be formed. Each team will consist of at least one member of the membership committee will sit on each team to act as liaison; a team leader; “B’s” who have volunteered to be recruiters and “C’s” who have volunteered to be closers.  Each of these teams will select a team leader who will provide weekly progress reports to ABC Recruiting Campaign chair Bob Repine.

Each team will consist of;

Active Kiwanis members who will provide the names of prospective members.

At least one member of the Membership Committee who will act as liaison and provide guidance

A team leader selected by the team

One or more “B’s” who will actively recruit (invite) the “A’s” to visit with us at weekly meetings

One or more “C’s,” knowledgeable Kiwanians who will invite the “A’s” to join the club and act as closers.

Teams will be assigned as 1, 2 and 3 initially. Each team will then be asked to select a team name relevant to the State of Oregon. Examples might include the Beavers, the Pioneers, the Chinooks, etc.

VISUAL DISPLAY

A Bar chart will be prepared charting the progress of each team, fostering pride and friendly competition.

BENEFIT MARKETING APPROACH

Members will be asked to complete a prospect profile for each “A” they recommend for invitation to the Salem Kiwanis Club. This profile asks for name, age, address, family, place of employment, hobbies, other community involvement and affiliations.

The “B’s” (recruiters) will be asked to connect this information with any of the club benefits that might appeal to the prospect. These benefits might include friendship, networking, public speaking skills, leadership skills, family involvement, social functions, stress relief, self-esteem, etc.

Once invited to a meeting, the entire club will be responsible for showing prospects that Kiwanians are a fun-loving group of community service minded people. They must see that meetings are enjoyable, informative and well structured. Members will be encouraged to strike up conversations with guests, make them feel comfortable and invite them back.

RECRUITS

For the purpose of this recruiting campaign, each person who participates in recruiting a prospective member who ultimately joins our club will receive credit for recruiting a new member. This means as many as three Kiwanis members may receive credit for each new recruit. The “A” would receive credit for recommending the prospect, the “B” would receive credit for inviting the recruit and the “C” would receive credit for closing the deal.

For the purpose of Kiwanis pins and year-end awards, only the person recommending the prospect will receive credit for recruiting a member.

INCENTIVES

The team (and individual members) that successfully recruits the most new members by May 10, 2005 will be recognized on our web site at www.salemkiwanis.org.

A $100.00 contribution will be made to a charitable organization of the winning team’s choice, in their honor.

A Chalet Restaurant Gift certificate in the amount of $25.00 will be awarded to the individual who recruits the most new members during this recruiting drive.

Individual certificates of appreciation will be awarded to every member who recruits at least one new member during this drive.

These recruiting efforts will count toward year-end plaques, which will be awarded to the top recruiters of the 2004 – 2005 administrative year, during the Installation banquet.

Members are to be reminded that Kiwanis International also offers the Achievers Pin for any member who recruits three new members during one administrative year. The Ruby K pin is available for any member who cumulatively recruits 5 members. The Ruby K pin is then updated in increments of 5. These pins will be awarded at our annual Installation banquet.
