THE CHAMPION
FOR CHILDREN
Founded in 1915
and headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, Kiwanis
International is a thriving organization of service and
community minded men and women who support children and young
adults worldwide.
More than 8,000
Kiwanis clubs in more than 70 countries make their mark by
responding to the needs of their communities and pooling their
resources to address worldwide issues. Through these efforts,
Kiwanis International is truly "Serving the Children of
the World."
The Salem
Kiwanis Club brings these same services to children in the
Salem and surrounding communities.

Making an Impact
Fellowship
and Fun
Making
new friends and enjoying fellowship is one of the personal
benefits Kiwanis offers to Individuals. Kiwanians come from
all walks of life including young individuals just embarking
on careers, established corporate executives, and active
retirees.
Insight
On Current Issues
Programs
provided at weekly club meetings offer members a chance to
hear from leaders in the community. Speakers and topics range
in all areas from those in education, the justice system, the
arts and entertainment, to those in public service,
non-profits, and professional businesses.
Diverse
Networking
Kiwanis
meeting and club projects offer a social setting where members
can interact with others in diverse business and professional
backgrounds. Members have an opportunity to meet people in
many areas of interest right within their own club and when
visiting other local club meetings.
Leadership
Development
Working
on various projects and club committees and/or serving in a
club officer position helps members build important leadership
skills. Members can serve at levels that fit their schedules
and personal preferences. These skills can be useful in both
personal and professional lives.
Changing
Tomorrows Today
Kiwanis
also provides leadership opportunities in community service
for youth. Salem Kiwanis Club sponsors a Circle K Club at
Western Baptist College. These important outreaches help
impart community service ideals into young people who will
carry the service "torch" to future generations.
Worldwide
Vision
In
1993, Kiwanis International joined UNICEF to undertake a
worldwide service project – to eradicate Iodine Deficiency
Disorders (IDD) around the world by 2000. Lack of iodine
stunts physical growth, causes mental retardation, and
diminishes individual and national productivity.
Kiwanis
clubs have committed themselves to raising awareness and the
needed funds to build the necessary iodization plants to rid
the world of this preventable disease permanently. Won’t you
join the effort?
